FAQ

What is radio frequency welding?

A technology developed in the 1940s, Radio Frequency Welding (also known as radio frequency heat sealing or high frequency welding) is a method of permanently adhering two or more layers of material together using electromagnetic energy. When combined with pressure, this energy forms an airtight, leak-proof seal. Urethanes and vinyl are common materials bonded by RF welding, but other materials can also be used. RF welding results in a sturdy bond that is especially useful in the creation of medical, military or other specialized performance items.

How do I know RF welding is the right process for my project?

RF welding is best for products that require a permanent airtight or watertight seal. Similar to the way a microwave oven alters and heats the water molecules in food, a high frequency welder uses a press that fuses the two materials together, creating a new single layer that is completely leak-proof. Since the material is cut and bonded at the same time, the end result is a durable product that is resistant to tearing, UV rays, extreme weather conditions and other forms of abuse. RF welding services are primarily used to bond PVC (polyvinyl chloride), TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate), polyethylene, certain foams, polymer films, laminated cloth, nylon and many other materials.

How long does RF welding last?

It depends on the type of material used. A seal created by radio frequency welding will remain intact as long as the original material is expected to last. In other words, if the material is not damaged, the radio frequency sealing won’t be damaged either. In fact, radio frequency welding actually reinforces the material. The heat sealing process increases the thickness and weight of the material, thereby extending its life.

Are RF welding or heat sealing services necessary for my project?

If your product requires a liquid-proof, gas-proof, or 100% weather-resistant seal, radio frequency welding or heat welding is an ideal solution. AmCraft is a “multi-process” manufacturer, so we can assess your project and determine the best method of production – RF heat sealing, Hot Air Welding, Sonic Welding, Sewing or another process.

How will I know that AmCraft Manufacturing can help me?

We can help you because we pride ourselves on excellent customer communication. We will listen to your concerns, answer all your questions, and communicate every step of the way. As a full service provider, we house several different operations under one roof. Whether you need to manufacture an existing product or begin production on a new one, we offer complete in-house services that will allow you to streamline resources and achieve successful results. We are your source for polyurethane seam Welding, coated material welding, solvent bonding, hot air binding, dielectric sealing and much more.

Why should I choose AmCraft Manufacturing?

Choosing AmCraft as your radio frequency welding company means working with a complete, in-house production team with experienced professionals (many with over a decade of experience at AmCraft alone) who can determine the best and most cost-efficient method for the creation of your product.

We keep detailed data and records of each project we undertake – allowing us to improve our methods each time. Many other welding and fabrication companies only focus on production, but we handle every aspect of product creation. In addition, we listen to your goals and offer solutions to your challenges. Working directly with the manufacturer means a more efficient process and better end result. If you need to use a high frequency welding service to produce a product requiring air, gas or liquid containment, we’d love to discuss your ideas. Please indicate the end product and/or the intended use in your initial inquiry. We look forward to hearing from you.

Can you work with me on developing a new product?

Absolutely. AmCraft’s expert design and engineering staff that can facilitate your project from start to finish. We’ll answer your questions and provide guidance, advice and solutions for a successful project from start to finish. All we need to get started is a concept and a basic, yet concise drawing. From there, we can devise the best methods for designing and creating your product. With your input, we will create a prototype that combines the ideal material (vinyl, PVC, coated fabric, etc.) with the most effective design. We are well aware of the potential challenges associated with product development, and we will help you avoid common mistakes and prepare your product for mass production.

Can I get a non-disclosure agreement from AmCraft?

The security of your project is important to us, and we understand your concerns. We are always willing to work under a non-disclosure/non-compete clause arrangement. After both parties sign the agreement, we will collaborate on design, cost evaluation, compliance testing and selection of materials.

Can you provide fulfillment and shipping services to multiple locations?

Yes, we offer shipping and distribution services. We are located near several interstate highways and within five miles of O’Hare International Airport).

Why choose AmCraft for my project?

It makes sense to choose AmCraft as your high frequency welding company because our experience covers every aspect of product development – from planning and design to production and shipping. We are large enough to handle your needs, but small enough to give you the personal attention you deserve. Trusting your project to a single-source provider means less time traveling to different locations and consulting with multiple companies. It also means a more consistent process from prototype to final product. You’ll have the opportunity to work hands-on with our team of radio frequency welders, project engineers, product managers, machine/shop experts and other experienced personnel. AmCraft is also ISO compliant, so you can rest assured that your product will be manufactured in accordance with the highest quality and accountability standards.

What do I need to get started?

To get started, you’ll need a working knowledge of the intended function and purpose of the product, and a clear drawing that represents it. We’ll go over possible options, whether it’s coated material sealing, solvent bonding, dielectric welding, thermoplastic bonding, ultrasonic welding, or any of our other processes.
